At the last meeting (for a while) of my writers' critique group, I was surprised by one of the ladies saying she wouldn't read romances. In defense, I told the group that all good fiction is about relationships. They all went quiet as if I had come up with some brilliancy.
So here, I'll elaborate, since we didn't have the time in our meeting to discuss. All fiction, no matter the genre or type, revolves around the building up or tearing down of relationships and the building up or tearing down of the characters involved in those relationships.
